You can also send files, and share your desktop (or just some applications within it) with other callers – either read-only or so they can control your keyboard and mouse.

This is a non-technical introduction to Microsoft Lync. It's designed for people who are coming across Lync for the first time: either developers who have just found they need to develop applications using Lync components, or end-users who have just discovered that the Lync icon has appeared overnight in a Group Policy update. Note To connect Lync for Mac 2011 to Skype for Business Online in Office 365, you must have Lync for Mac version 14.0.6 or a later version installed. Today, I ran across the issue of some Lync clients not being able to connect up to our Lync 2010 server. They were receiving the following error: Sign in to Microsoft Lync failed because the service is not available or you may not be connected to the internet. Turned out this was caused by having an invalid SSL certificate. The reason the certificate was invalid was this particular Mac was not apart of the domain and therefore the root CA’s certificate was not trusted. Simply importing the root certificate into the keychain logged the user right in.

It looks like this is where the phone update folder structure resides. I've attempted to re-create a virtual folder but I still get permission errors even though these are the same as the other pools. Long story short, there are several inconsistencies in IIS (including url rewrites and maybe others) in this pool for an unknown reason. Server hardware, OS, system updates and Lync updates are all consistent across the board.

The iPhone mic/headset work great and it’s not the problem. The feature/function lack of parity is not even so bad although the lack of being able to configure audio like you can in Skype is a pain. The biggest problem is the stability and bugginess of the Mac client. It crashes at least once a day, I often have to quit and restart it and often enough I can see the speaker thingy in Lync moving, but I can’t hear the call. Or can’t accept incoming calls.

The in-house tech support tried installing all kinds of certificates, but none of them resolved the problem. I should further note that when this laptop had Win8.1, Lync connected fine on any network.

One thing I would say is that the sorts of companies that I work for are never simple places to work as a technologies they have complex environments and several hundred business apps. Then again one would have thought that as microsoft isn’t some little startup they would have experience of making software work in complex client environments. • Actually come to think if it you are part of the problem. You think its acceptable that there is software that repeatedly gives a poor customer experience and that its acceptable that it “appears to work but doesn’t work well” unless the company implements it “is qualified”. Just paying for the software should “qualify” the customer to use it successfully. Given the repetitional damage to Microsoft due to the low quality of the product you would expect that they would make it “fail fast” and refuse to work in a poorly implemented manner complaining loudly to the end user that “sorry I cannot work right now. Please speak to your sysadmin about getting qualified to do his job”.
